Multimedia, Surveillance, and the Dystopian State
The Pilot Theatre adaptation was a massive, highly technical production. Examiners want to see you push beyond basic spotlights and wooden chairs. You must design a world that feels like a modern, terrifying surveillance state. Use terms like "projection mapping," "electronic soundscapes," and "LED strips."
Focus on a monolithic, abstract set. Use massive folding panels that act as walls, sliding doors, and projection screens to create a high-tech, claustrophobic environment.
Flood the stage with intense, saturated red washes to symbolize the systemic violence. Contrast this with the cold, blue, artificial glow of CCTV monitors and television screens.
Design a visually distinct class divide. Crosses wear sharp, tailored, military-inspired uniforms. Noughts wear cheap, practical streetwear that allows them to blend into the shadows.
Use heavy, electronic, dystopian beats. Incorporate the relentless buzzing of static and the harsh crackle of police radios to maintain constant psychological tension.
